Notes

View from Kerr Notch.

In a letter from Ansel Hall to John C. Merriam of the Carnegie Institution dated September 30, 1932 Hall describes the painting – “No. 3 is a view from Kerr Notch in morning light and under entirely different conditions from No.2. The painting is more photographic than No. 1 or No. 2, but seems to lack atmosphere. The reflections are particularly good. Widforss says that he intends doing this over again with changed foreground.”

Park Service news article about Widforss' 1932 visit to Crater Lake

Genevieve and Fred Witteborg, the original owners, worked at Grand Canyon for 30 years or more.
