Notes
Widforss first visited and painted in Zion in March 1923 after receiving a commission from Stephen Mather, first director of the National Park Service. He returned to Zion to paint for a couple of months that summer.
In July, at the North Rim of Grand Canyon, Widforss met the family of Louis and Frances Sands of Glendale Arizona. There, they bought a painting that he had made from Bright Angel Point. Later, they met up with the artist when they visited Zion National Park. These are the three Sands children. Photograph from the artist/s scrapbook.
